TRENTON -- The next one's better.

Dawson Yates scored 18 points, and Grant Jausel added 16, as Pinckneyville used a 18-8 third quarter to pull away from Trenton-Wesclin for a 56-37 win in the Warriors' own Class 2A sectional on Friday.

With the victory, Pinckneyville (30-3) won its first sectional title since 2008, coach Bob Waggoner's first year as head coach and the last time the Panthers went to state.

"We've been close," Waggoner said. "We've been here a few times, haven't been able to make that next step and really, playing on their floor was a concern, but this team is hungry and I think they've got a lot more left in them."
