Logan baseball cruises past Lake Land

MATTOON - The John A. Logan College baseball team cruised past Lake Land College 13-1 on Thursday.

The win puts the Vols at 20-12 overall and 7-3 in GRAC play.

The Vols tallied 20 hits on the day including four home runs en route to the shortgame victory.

Jeremy Gaines and Collin Clayton led the charge, collecting four hits and three runs each. Jack Wilson, Hunter Sullivan and A.J. Lewis each contributed two hits and three RBI for the day.

Wilson's two-run shot got the Vols going in the third. Logan started to pull away in the fourth, when Gaines, Sullivan and Lewis connected for back-to-back-to-back home runs.

Logan added four runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to finish off the scoring.

On the mound, Trey Riley held the Lakers in check all game. Riley (5-1) threw a complete game, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out 15. The sophomore right-hander is currently 12th in the nation in strikeouts with 76 and fifth in the nation in Earned Run Average at 1.08.

JALC will look to continue its hot ways on Friday, when Lake Land travels to Carterville for a doubleheader to finish the season series beginning at 1 p.m.
