Logan baseball takes two of three from Olney

CARTERVILLE - The John A. Logan College baseball team blanked Olney in a doubleheader sweep Saturday, 6-0 and 1-0, to win the Great Rivers Athletic Conference series against the Knights.

Logan is now 26-13 overall and 13-4 in the GRAC.

Tanner Gordon pitched a nine-inning complete game in the opener with 19 strikeouts and just two hits and two walks allowed.

Ashton Creal homered and drove in three runs, while Hunter Combs and A.J. Lewis both went 3-for-4 and scored twice for the Vols.

Then in the second game, Creal walked and scored the winning run on a hit by Blake Johnson in the bottom of the seventh for a walkoff victory.

Brenden Heiss pitched all seven innings and struck out 11 with three hits and four walks against him.

Gordon and Heiss are both now 6-2 this season.

The series started Thursday at Olney with the Knights rallying from a 3-0 deficit to beat Logan, 5-4, and spoil a great pitching performance from Trey Riley.

Riley went 7-2/3 innings with 14 strikeouts and gave up two runs on two hits. Cole Hensel took the loss in relief.
