Lady Indians fall at Nashville, take down Carlyle

DU QUOIN - The Du Quoin High School softball team bounced back from a loss to Nashville by beating Carlyle, 5-2, Wednesday evening.

Chloe Hill gave up single runs in the fifth and sixth but wiggled out of jams and stranded nine Carlyle runners on the bases.

Olivia Whitley's RBI single in the second put Du Quoin on the board, then Hill knocked in both Morgan Bullar and Grace Haney in the third. Kaylee Aleshire and Whitley collected RBIs in the fifth.

Hill had two hits, while Katie Smith, Bullar, Haney, Chloe Hess, Aleshire, Whitley and McKinnies all had one apiece.

"We came up with some timely hits," said Du Quoin coach Jason James. "We have to keep improving to have a chance in the postseason."

On Tuesday, the Lady Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning but couldn't hold it and lost 11-5 at Nashville in SIRR Mississippi Division play.

In the bottom half of the first, Sophie Heck hit an RBI double to drive in Paige Kasten, then Kyleigh Guinzy tied it with a two-run single and Mackenzie McFeron plated two more runs to put the Hornettes up 6-4.

Kasten drove in another run as Nashville pushed its lead to 9-5 in the sixth and kept scoring.

Du Quoin's record moved to 17-10 after the two games.
