OLNEY -- Devon Davis hit a grand slam and Keira Hance also had a big day at the plate Tuesday as the Marion High School softball team cruised to a 13-0 five-inning win over Olney Richland County in the semifinals of the Olney 3A Regional.
Ivy Smart pitched a one-hit shutout for Marion, which is now 27-4 and advances to the championship game against Herrin, which advanced with a 2-0 win over Mt. Vernon.
That game, originally scheduled for Saturday in Olney, will now be played Friday at 4:30 p.m. in Carterville at the John A. Logan College field.
Hance put Marion on the board with a two-run homer in the first inning.
Then in the second, Kelsi Cutsinger was hit by a pitch and a bunt from Kaylee Evans started a five-run rally. Morgan Andrews and Morgan Dodd followed with singles, then after Hance drew a two-out walk, Davis bombed her 15th homer to collect four RBIs.
Andrews doubled and scored on a hit by Dodd in the third, which was followed by hits from Hannah Nalley and Hance before Smart ripped a two-run double. Cutsinger also had an RBI single in the frame.
Davis added a sac fly in the fourth to finish with two hits five RBIs, while Hance was 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs. Dodd had two hits and scored three runs and Andrews had two hits and scored twice.
Smart faced the minimum in the circle through three innings -- she plunked a batter in the second that was erased on a double play -- and gave up her first and only hit with two outs in the fourth. Smart had just one strikeout, the game's first batter, and didn't walk anyone.
In other regional action, Centralia defeated Carbondale, 3-0, Tuesday at the Massac County Regional to end the Terriers' season. Massac County then defeated Carterville in the other semifinal game on Wednesday, 4-2, to advance to the championship against the Annies.
