Steeleville Warriors fall 1-0 in sectional match

The Steeleville baseball season came to a close in Cobden May 21, where the Warriors lost to Edwards County 1-0 in a hard-fought Sectional game.

The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. A lead off hit in the bottom of the first was erased when Jacob Sutton threw out the runner attempting to steal second. A walk to the number two hitter was followed by a strikeout. With two outs, Edwards County got a double into right center scoring the first run of the game.

The Warriors threatened in the top of the second. Gavin Conway walked with one out. After a strike out for the second out, Dylan Hill ripped a double down the left field line. Conway attempted to score but was thrown out at the plate on a perfect relay from Edwards County.

Steeleville put a scare into the Lions in the seventh. The Warriors loaded the bases with two outs. Mel Mulholland walked, Owen Gross delivered a single and Jacob Sutton drew a walk. Eli Wittenborn grounded to second to end the threat and Edwards County held on for the 1-0 win.

Steeleville finished the season 14-9.
