Volleyball Weir, Welge named to BDC All-Conference

Chester High School volleyball standouts Carlee Weir and Lauren Welge were named to the Black Diamond Conference 2018 Volleyball All-Conference Team last week.

The two seniors were tabbed with BDC West Division honors for 2018.

Senior Carlee Weir, a setter, is a four-year player for the Lady Jackets. She was named to the BDC All-Conference Team twice before making 2018 her third such honor. Last year she was named the 2017 BDC All-Conference Team captain. This year Weir has been honored by being selected as the 2018 BDC Most Valuable Player.

Welge was also selected to the 2018 Black Diamond Conference All-Conference Team for 2018. Welge was a right-side hitter for the Lady Jackets this year and was a regular starter for the team. Last year, Welge was also selected as an All-Conference Team member for the 2017 season, giving her back-to-back honors.

Weir and Welge helped the Lady Jacket squad to a second-place finish in the Black Diamond Conference West Division for the 2018 season. Chester recorded a record of 9-3 in the West Division.

The only team that had a better record than the Lady Jackets was the Trico Lady Pioneers who were undefeated in the BDC with a perfect 12-0 record. The Pioneers won the conference title outright.

Lady Pioneer Rayahna Foutch earned the 2018 title of captain of the All-Conference Team. Trico teammates Madisen Ebers, a senior, and Reagan Couch, a sophomore, also earned All-Conference honors.

Rounding out the 2018 Black Diamond Conference West Division All-Conference Team were Goreville players Jillian Helton, a senior; Payton Sopczak, a junior, and Katie Benard, a sophomore.

Other All-Conference honorees included seniors Kaleigh Keeling and Alyssa Jones of Vienna; senior Andrea Miller of Christopher; Trinitti Noto, a junior, from Zeigler-Royalton; and Carlie Page, a junior, of Sesser-Valier-Waltonville.
