Logan rolls past Falcons; Lady Vols fall in OT

HARRISBURG - Jayden Scrubb had his best game yet for John A. Logan College as the highly-touted freshman pumped in 25 points with 20 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Vols to a 99-69 romp of Southeastern Illinois College on Saturday afternoon.

Logan, which is ranked No. 13 in the NJCAA Division I national poll, improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.

The Volunteers scored the game's first seven points and led 43-29 at the break.

Scrubb was 11 of 24 from the floor, including a spectacular rebound dunk in the second half where he rose above everyone and threw down a putback with his left hand.

Vonnie Patterson had 21 points and eight rebounds and was joined in double figures by Jonah Jackson with 15 points and Quamain Nelson with 14.

David Sloan, who was coming off a monster scoring stretch in Logan's previous three games, had just two points but was happily dishing out 12 assists.

Chris Harris had eight points, two blocks and a nice dunk. Jordan Cousin chipped in six points and six rebounds.

Marion's Justin Saddoris also had a strong game with five points - a 3-pointer followed by a layup off a slick pass from Sloan - and dished out five assists of his own. Saddoris was charted for two steals and a rebound.

The biggest cheer from Logan's bench came when Carterville's Justin Johnson hit a 3-pointer in the final minute for his only points.

Alex Pantelic had 18 points for the Falcons, who are now 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the GRAC.

In the women's game, SIC outlasted Logan, 110-105 in overtime, to drop Logan's records to 5-6 and 0-2.

Emily Holmes led the Lady Vols with 29 points, including seven 3-pointers. Lyric Campbell had 15 points and nine assists.

Logan's women play Wednesday night at home against Jefferson College at 5 p.m., while the men are off until next Saturday when they face Lewis and Clark at home.
