PINCKNEYVILLE -- Megan Breslin scored 20 points to lead the Pinckneyville High School girls basketball team to a 49-27 rout of Sparta in an SIRR Mississippi Division game Tuesday night at Duster Thomas Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers (11-8, 3-3) led 13-8 after one quarter and took a 21-13 lead into halftime. Pinckneyville ended the game on a 17-5 run.

Bella Pasquino added nine points, Lily Britt had seven, Lily Tanner had six and Payton Morgan had five for the Lady Panthers.

"We really made the game harder on ourselves than we had to," said Pinckneyville coach Alan Engelhardt. "Missed layups and free throws led to a close game through three quarters. We had a good stretch to start the fourth and pushed the lead to 22."

Pinckneyville opens play at the West Frankfort Mid-Winter Classic on Saturday against the host Lady Redbirds at 5 p.m., then will return Jan. 15 to play Herrin and Jan. 17 to face Sesser-Valier-Waltonville.
