Harrisburg starts off hot at LEMWC

Harrisburg led by 16 points heading into the fourth quarter and held off a late rally by Fairfield to win by nine, 57-46 Saturday night on the first day of the Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic at Eldorado High School.

It was the second of two wins for Harrisburg as they edged Carmi-White County 69-44 earlier in the day.

In the win against Fairfield, Harrisburg shot 36 percent from the floor, going 17-for-46 and were 10-of-22 from 3-point range (45 percent), while knocking down 12-of-20 foul shots for 60 percent.

Brooke Meylor had a team-high 16 points for Harrisburg (21-2), while Karsyn Davis also finished in double figures with 11 points.

Alli Ferrell just missed out on double figure scoring as the senior guard netted nine points, while Essence Sanders added eight points. Madeline Rider scored seven points and Ivy Brown tossed in a free throw.

Conrad had a game-high 18 points for Fairfield, while Jennings also finished in double figures with 15 points.

In Harrisburg's win over Carmi-White County, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 33-18 first half lead and never looked back.

Meylor had a team-high 14 points, while Essence Sanders and Ferrell both tossed in 12 points in the win.

Davis and Rider had another seven points for Harrisburg, while Summer Sanders scored six points. Lauryn Gribble finished with five points, while Stream Black flushed in four points and Kailyn Moss tossed in two points.

Harrisburg shot 45 percent from the floor, while going 11-for-24 (45 percent) from 3-point range and 8-for-12 (66 percent) from the free throw line.

Also on Saturday, Anna-Jonesboro beat Mt. Carmel 43-40, while Vienna knocked off Gallatin County 67-29. Eldorado stunned Benton 58-49, while Mt. Carmel beat Carmi-White Conty 49-35 in the nightcap.

Due to snow on Saturday morning, the Eldorado vs. Gallatin County and Benton vs. Goreville games were postponed to Wednesday.

In Gallatin County's loss to Vienna, Audrey Jackson had 22 points for the Hawks, while Morgan Russell finished with four points and Gracie Sauls tacked on three points.

Vienna finished with four players in double figures.

In Eldorado's win over Benton, Lexie Mitchell had a game-high 21 points for Eldorado, while Paige Munds scored 17 points and Lily Mosby tacked on 12 to finish in double figures.

Eldorado led 9-8 after one quarter and trailed 20-18 at halftime. Benton held its two-point advantage after three quarters, but Eldorado outscored Benton 24-16 in the final eight minutes, highlighted by nine points from both Mitchell and Munds.

Emma Wargel finished with five points for Eldorado, while Jade Hise tacked on three points.

Wallace had a game-high 23 points for Benton, while Miller finished in double figures with 11 points.

Milby scored six for the Rangerettes, while Carlton tacked on three. Tedeschi and Cockrum both had two points for Benton.

Galatia-Thompsonville 46, Gallatin County 42

Late last week, Galatia-Thompsonville got a Greater Egyptian Conference win over Gallatin County, rallying past the Hawks 46-42.

The Bearcats were down three late in the fourth quarter when Bailey Crisip hit a 3-pointer to tie game, but Gallatin County responded right back, before Kate Bond knocked down two free throws to notch the game. On defense, Galatia-Thompsonville got a stop and in transtion, Jaedyn Beers was fouled and made both free throws to give G-T the lead by two, after forcing Gallatin County into another turnover, Bond scored a fast break lay up on an assist by Crisp to win by four.

Bond had a team-high 18 points, while Beers tacked on 10 points to finish in double figures.

Crisp added eight points for the Bearcats, while Chloe Mays scored six points, Maddie McFarland tacked on three points and Josie Martin had a free throw.

McKenzie Russell scored a team-high 18 points, while Audrey Jackson tacked on 13 points in the loss. Gracie Sauls scored six points, while Molly Newton tacked on three and Hallie Zirkelbach had two points.

Galatia-Thompsonville (6-10, 5-1 GEC) will play Shawnee tonight (Tuesday) at the Zeigler-Royalton Tournament.

Galatia-Thompsonville 49, Johnston City 42

Bond had 22 points for Galatia-Thompsonville in a 49-42 win over Johnston City.

Beers added eight points, while Crisp and Mays both scored six points. Martin finished with five points.
