Sloan leads Logan past Lincoln Trail

ROBINSON - David Sloan showed he's more than just a dishing point guard Saturday as the sophomore standout scored 29 points to lead the John A. Logan College men's basketball team to a 76-66 road win over Lincoln Trail.

Sloan, playing as the reigning NJCAA Player of the Week, made 15 of his 16 free throws and still handed out six assists and pulled down four rebounds for the Vols, who led 37-31 at the half.

Logan is now 17-1 overall with a 13-game win streak and a perfect 8-0 mark in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. That record includes going 6-0 on the road.

The Vols, who were ranked No. 3 in last week's NJCAA Division I national poll, are still averaging 93.2 points per game despite some recent defensive slugfests.

Chris Harris added 16 points and Jordan Cousin had 13 - both players came off the bench - while Vonnie Patterson provided seven points and 11 rebounds for the Vols.

Jaylon Holmes led Lincoln Trail with 19 points. Lawrence Williams had 16 and Justin Williams scored 12.

In the women's game, Logan notched its fifth straight win by rolling to a 70-35 victory over the Lady Statesmen.

The Lady Vols (11-7, 6-2) led 39-14 at the half. Emily Holmes led Logan with 17 points and Johnecia Kyles had 15 points and three blocks. ZaKyra Stallworth chipped in nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Both teams host Olney Central in a GRAC doubleheader Wednesday night starting at 5 p.m. inside Brewer Gymnasium in Carterville.
