CARBONDALE -- Four players reached double figures and the Marion Junior High School boys basketball team clinched the Big Seven Conference championship with a 51-37 win over Carbondale on Wednesday night.

MJHS finishes the regular season with a 20-3 record and an 11-1 mark in the Big Seven.

Benja Stone led the Wildcats with 12 points. Nehemiah Goodman had 11, while Evan Noelle and Bryson Burgess added 10 each.

Cooper Thompson chipped in seven, including two 3-pointers in the first quarter to help Marion jump out to a 16-6 lead.

Noelle then drained two treys in the second period as Marion took a 28-18 lead into halftime.

Stone put in five in the third to push the lead to 42-28 going into the fourth.

The Wildcats were 18 of 24 from the foul line.

MJHS now begins postseason play Tuesday night against West Frankfort in the semifinals of the SIJHSAA Class L West Frankfort Regional. The winner advances to Thursday's championship against either Harrisburg or Massac County.
