Logan crushes Shawnee for 20th win

CARTERVILLE - The John A. Logan College men's basketball team had five players in double figures to record a 93-68 win over Shawnee College on Saturday afternoon inside Brewer Gymnasium.

It was the 20th win of the season for the Vols, who are ranked sixth nationally with a record of 20-2. Logan is now 11-0 and in first place in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.

Shawnee (9-11, 2-9) jumped to an early 7-1 lead but the Vols roared back to take the lead at 12-11 and never trailed again. The Vols led 46-30 at the half.

Much of the game was played above the rim as Logan had numerous dunks and blocked shots.

Jayden Scrubb led Logan with 22 points while Chris Harris added 15, Antwan Campbell and Jordan Cousin each had 12 and David Sloan had 10 points and eight assists.

Campbell and Quamain Nelson led on the boards with with 10 rebounds each.

Vonnie Patterson added nine points, Jonah Jackson had six points and Justin Saddoris had no points but two assists in the win.

Shawnee was led by Isaiah Thompson with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

In the women's game, Logan rolled to a 91-48 victory and is now 13-9 overall and 8-3 in the GRAC.

Johnecia Kyles led Logan with 25 points, while Alicia Hornbuckle and Lyric Campbell both had 14 points.

Both teams play at Wabash Valley on Wednesday, then host Southeastern Illinois College on Saturday.
