SIU baseball team posts 3.440 GPA for spring semester

CARBONDALE - The Southern Illinois baseball program set an in-season (Spring semester) program record with a 3.440 team GPA in the Spring 2019 semester.

The 2018-19 Saluki Baseball team set program records for both fall (3.471) and spring team GPAs.

Twenty-four of the 30 players on the roster carried a 3.0 GPA or better in Spring 2019, and six players achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs during the spring: Blake Begner, Grey Epps, Noah Farmer, Addison Fugitt, Mason Hiser and Evan Martin.

"I'm proud of our players' continued commitment to academic success," SIU head coach Ken Henderson said of the achievement.

"Over the past several years, our student-athletes have set a high standard academically, and these young men deserve recognition for taking that to a new level in both semesters this year."

Saluki Baseball has set and reset the program GPA record four times under head coach Ken Henderson, and the program has posted a team GPA above a 3.0 for 10 consecutive semesters.

SIU baseball student-athletes have earned 24 MVC Scholar-Athlete honors under Henderson.

The previous spring-semester program GPA record was 3.337 in spring 2017. The top five team GPAs in program history have all come in the last four years.
