SOFTBALL: Abbadusky, Newfarmer help EHS get past Waltonville

Cheyenne Abbadusky and Paige Newfarmer both had big RBI hits for the Lady Falcons in their 9-5 road win at Waltonville on Wednesday, giving Elverado wins in eight of their last eleven games.

Britani Prescott came through in the pitching circle for the Lady Falcons, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

"Britani threw a great game," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "We were patient at the plate, got base runners on, and scored some runs."

Three hits put Waltonville out front 1-0 after the bottom of the first inning, but Elverado answered in a hurry with three runs in the top of the second thanks to three walks and a two-run double by Abbadusky.

The Lady Spartans trimmed the lead to 3-2 with an unearned run in the second, but again, the Lady Falcons answered right back with three more runs in the top of the third. Newfarmer and Prescott had singles in the inning, during which EHS drew four more free passes from Waltonville pitching.

Newfarmer's two-run single in the fifth capped off another three-run inning for Elverado to make it 9-2, more than enough for Prescott to absorb three more unearned runs in the sixth after three errors.

"Lost our focus there in the sixth inning and let one mistake turn into too many, but we battled til the end," Wheatley said.

Abbadusky (1-4, 3 RBI, 2B, BB), Newfarmer (2-4, R, 2 RBI), Prescott (1-4, R) and Maycee Bowlin (1-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB) had hits for the Lady Falcons.

Elverado (10-9, 7-0) hosts Dongola on Thursday.
