VOLLEYBALL: Du Quoin takes Herrin to third set, but falls short

Du Quoin took Herrin to three sets on Wednesday night, but the Lady Tigers made some late runs on their serve and pulled away in the third winning the match 25-10, 26-28, 25-8.

"We had a lot of really good rallies tonight," said DHS head coach Jo Dill. "Herrin served really tough in games one and three and took us out of our offense. The second game we were passing well and ran our offense and blocked well. The third game started off well, but they got on some runs with tough serving that we couldn't overcome."

Alaina Caldwell led the way for Du Quoin with a team-high 4 kills and 15 assists, and also added 7 digs and a pair of service aces. Rylea McDonald topped digs with 13 for DHS. Jordyn Bullar, Arrah Barwick, Alexis O'Keefe and Taylor Gates each tallied 3 kills. Gates had 8 digs, Bullar had 7 to go along with a team-leading 3 aces.

The Lady Indians will take on Steeleville on Thursday for Senior Night at Du Quoin. On Monday, DHS travels to Johnston City for Regional action, taking on Sesser-Valier at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. A win would advance the Lady Indians into Tuesday's semifinals against Carmi-White County.
