Steeleville High to see new faces, new classes

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[There were a few new appointments made at the regular Steeleville School Board meeting on Monday, Jan. 19. The Board approved a new custodian and a new baseball coach for the high school. Shad Hicks will be leading the Steeleville High School Baseball Team as the new Head Coach. Neil Miller will be taking over custodial duties for the Steeleville High School. The junior high will also be seeing a new assistant basketball coach by the name of Curt Jeffers.

There will be curriculum changes at the Steeleville High School in the near future. The keyboarding class will be changed from a two semester class to a one semester class. In turn, there will be a semester of business "piggy-backed" with the keyboarding class. There will be a Nutrition II class offered in conjunction with the current Nutrition I. The class will offer students a college credit at SWIC and an opportunity to receive their Food Sanitation License.

There are several seniors that are asking to take part in the Rebound program that is offered to students. It is run out of Carbondale High School and is meant to help students who have struggled with their grades. The program is an accelerated remedial class that will help replace a failed grade. It resembles an independent study and takes dedication to finish. Some seniors who need the credit are asking to take part in the program in order to participate in the spring commencement ceremonies.

In other Steeleville School Board news

-The Board went into executive session to discuss 'student discipline'.

-A grant for the elementary school is funding a Nutrition and Fitness Program for the whole school.

-Shelia Grapton, one of the BETA sponsers, and her students helped raise $2,100 for the adopt-a-soldier program.
