Sparta Police

On 02-09-09 Larry Williams, 25, Sparta, was arrested on a city warrant for Non-Payment of Fines. Posted bond.

On 02-09-09 Robert W. Walter, 45, Walsh, was arrested for Domestic Battery. Was taken to RC Jail.

On 02-10-09 Brianne N. Lindsay, 18, Sparta, was arrested on a city warrant for Non-Payment of Fines. Posted bond.

On 02-13-09 a 14-year-old female, Sparta, was arrested for Retail Theft at Walmart. Release pending of formal charges.

On 02-14-09 Vincent D. Ward, 46, Sparta, was arrested on a Harrison County Mississippi warrant for Home Repair Fraud. Was taken to RC Jail pending extradition to Mississippi.

On 02-15-09 Christopher S. Holliday, 27, Sparta, was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Posted bond.

Accidents

On 02-11-09 a pedestrian, Danny S. Hughes, 44, Coulterville, ran into the side of a car driven by Shay L. Valleroy, 34, Steeleville on Broadway and Locust.

On 02-12-09 drivers Sarah A. Anderson, 22, Pinckneyville, and Rudelle C. Cowell, 76, Sparta, were involved in an accident in the Walmart lot.

On 02-13-09 drivers Carl E. West, 79, Sparta, and Nicole R. Childs, 26, Sparta, were involved in an accident at Main and Bottom. Childs and two passengers in her car were taken to Sparta Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. West was cited for Failure to Yield and Childs was cited for No Insurance.

Jackson Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Jackson County Deputies have arrested Christopher Lawless, 30, and listed as being homeless, on charges of Public Indecency and Disorderly Conduct. Deputies responded to a report of a suspect exposing himself to a man and woman who were walking on the Lake Murphysboro Road at around 6:30 a.m. Friday, February 13. Lawless was on foot at the time, and the victims reported that they initially encountered Lawless as they were walking out of the Lake Murphysboro State Park. Deputies arrested Lawless minutes later in the area. It is believed that Lawless spent the night inside the park. Lawless, who is a registered sex offender, is required to register at the Sheriff' Dept. every 7 days since he listed his address as being homeless several weeks ago. He had been in compliance at the time this offense occurred. Lawless is currently incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail on the above charges.

Jackson County Deputies are investigating the theft of a Yamaha 4-wheeler that occurred from the yard of a home on Division Street in Vergennes overnight on Friday, February 13. The 2004 Yamaha Warrior 4-wheeler was white in color with a red frame.

Deputies are investigating the burglary to a home on East Jacob Road. The homeowner had been away, and the burglary could have occurred anytime during the past month. Forced entry was made to the home, and jewelry items, a chainsaw, a DVD player, and a jacket, were stolen out of the home.

Deputies are investigating the theft of a hot tub from a home on West Harrison Road in rural Murphysboro. The theft was reported to the Sheriff's Dept. on Wednesday, February 11. The home was unoccupied and for sale, and the theft was discovered by a Real Estate agent.

Accidents

On 02-16-09 Elijah B. Spiller, 19, of Campbell Hill, IL and Duffy E. McBride, 67, of Ava, IL were involved in a two-car accident. McBride was south bound on State Rt. 4, followed by Spiller. McBride slowed for deer on the roadway and Spiller could not slow down quick enough and rear-ended McBride. Spiller was charged with Careless Driving.

On 2-14-09 driver Michael A. Reel, 22, of Percy, IL swerved to miss a deer and struck a pine tree. The vehicle was towed by Bruns Towing of Steeleville.
