High Winds Destroy Mobile Homes in Randolph County
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Randolph County was hit hard by high winds Sunday during a storm front that also caused damage in Wayne County. High winds and hail caused damage in a line from St. Louis to Randolph County then northeast into Jefferson County. Winds approached 50 mph and generated marble-sized hail. Two mobile homes were destroyed along Rt. 154 near Baldwin. The Kaskaskia River Motel west of Baldwin had damage to the second floor.
The National Weather Service now blames a pair of tornadoes for destroying buildings in central and southwestern Illinois.
And forecasters say strong winds, heavy rain and high water are possible for much of the state Monday night and Tuesday.
Weather service meteorologist Ed Shimon says a tornado destroyed a church and a farm house near Greenfield on Sunday. The town is about 60 miles north of St. Louis.
Shimon says several homes destroyed in Loamiwere also hit by a tornado. Loami is about 10 miles southwest of Springfield.
Shimon says the northern half of Illinois is under a flood watch through midday Tuesday. And more storms are expected to crank up Monday night.
