Jr. High Volleyball: Lady Warriors in Jr. SWEC Command

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin (Middle School) took control of the Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) volleyball race Monday evening, posting 25-13, 25-23 wins over Murphysboro (Middle School).

The Lady Warriors are now 8-1 in league play with three matches remaining. Tuesday, they host Nashville.

"We had a couple of tough losses against Carbondale and Massac County last week," DMS coach Isaac Miller said. "So it was nice to get back on track with a win over Murphysboro. That avenges our only conference loss. When we keep our focus and stay consistent with our hitting, we are a tough team to beat."

Du Quoin is 18-5-1 overall and was led by the eight-point effort of Cassidy Rice. Rebekah Maddox had 11 kills at the net with Jessie Martin (four kills) and Hadley Marek (six digs) also enjoying solid matches.

Last week, DMS fell at Carbondale (21-25, 22-25) and lost at home to Massac County (21-25, 11-25).

In seventh grade action, the Lady Warriors (10-4, 7-2) swept past Murphysboro 25-5, 13-25, 15-10. Annie Bastien led the way with 19points on 20-for-20 serving. She had 13 aces.

Du Quoin defeated Carbondale (25-21, 25-13) and Massac County (25-20, 25-21) last week.

Miller announced two changes in the upcoming DMS schedule. The Lady Warriors varsity team will compete at the Massac County Tournament in Metropolis this Saturday. Wednesday's match will be at Sparta, and not against Trico as listed on the original DMS schedule.
