Jr. High Volleyball: Lady Warriors First in Metropolis

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ In a span of just over six hours, the Du Quoin (Middle School) Volleyball team put together five solid efforts at the Massac County Invitational Saturday.

The Lady Warriors went 3-0 during pool play rounds and then added two more victories in the finals, winning the tournament with a 5-0 record.

Now 25-5-1, DMS hosts Eighth Grade Night activities Monday against Sparta.

"I'm very proud of these girls and what they've accomplished this year," Du Quoin coach Isaac Miller said. "I know they want more. Each player on the team knows their job and each one is getting their job done."

The Lady Warriors began pool play with 21-19 and 21-13 wins over Jonesboro. After rolling past Goreville (21-4, 21-14), the Lady Warriors bested Lick Creek 21-18, 21-12.

In semifinal play, Du Quoin needed three games to avenge two of its previous losses by edging host Massac County. Scores were 21-15, 18-21 and 15-9.

The Lady Warriors dispatched of Eldorado in the title match by scores of 21-14, 20-22 and 15-6.

"Every person on this team saw game time at the tourney and performed well when they were in," Miller said. "It was a total team effort to win this tourney."

DMS middle hitter Rebekah Maddox was named tournament MVP and joined on the all-tourney team by Cassidy Rice and Jessie Martin.
