All Four Will be Seated in Dist. 50 Race

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ There are four candidates for four seats in the Pinckneyville District 50 grade school election, so all four will be seated.

They include incumbents Deon Johnston of 511 West South Street, who is also a candidate in the Pinckneyville Community High School District 101 race; Marilyn Milliken of 320 Mildred Drive; and Scott A. Carney, 811 Ritter St.

Keith Hagene of 4464 State Rt. 127 is a candidate for one of the four seats and is not currently a member of the board.

Board member Steve Priebe is retiring from the board.

Hagene is 43 and an industrial technology instructor at the high school level with 20 years of teaching experience. He has his associates degree from Rend Lake College and his Bachelor's Degree from Southeast Missouri State University and his Master's from Eastern Illinois University.

Hagene said he has been approached in the past about seeking a position on the board and this year has decided to devote the time to this calling. "You cannot be an effective board member with a personal agenda. All decisions and policies are set by the entire board. I believe the entire board should adopt goals that center around providing the students of the district with the best resources (personnel, technical, etc.) possible to help insure the success of each individual learner, while being fiscally responsible."

He added, "I believe that the school has the essential elements needed to continue to move in a positive direction aimed at student achievement and growth. We should continue to encourage and provide the school with the means to challenge the students and faculty to rise to the difficulties facing our community."

Deon Johnston conveyed his thoughts on education in Wednesday's story about the Pinckneyville Community High School race. Candidates Milliken and Carney did not provide answers to a questionnaire that was mailed to them.
