Du Quoin Navyman's Death Under Investigation
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Complete secrecy surrounds the Navy's investigation into the death of Du Quoin navyman Petty Officer Second Class Roger L. Macaluso, 32.
Even the parents say they don't know why their son died, as the funeral and burial were held Friday with full military honors.
A Navy honor guard of 18 from St. Louis stood vigil over the beautiful and emotion-filled service conducted from the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Petty Officer Macaluso's death was apparently not in the line of duty, but family members say they have not been told whether his death was accidental or the result of foul play.
In fact, family members say it could be months before the Navy makes its investigation public.
Petty Officer Roger L. Macaluso, Jr., 32, of San Diego, Calif., passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Souda Bay, Greece.
Roger was serving with the U.S. Navy for the past 12 years.
He was born August 17, 1976 at Centreville, the son of Roger L. and Victoria (Short) Macaluso.
He married Teresa O'Brien on August 1, 2002 at San Diego, Calif., and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of San Diego, Calif., his parents - Roger and Victoria Macaluso of Du Quoin, one brother - Jimmie L. Short of Cahokia, three sisters - Janet Lynn Macaluso of House Springs, Mo., Sherri Lee Little of Indiana, and Dorline P. Turner of Cahokia, and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. C.L. McKinnies and Rev. Dan McKinnies officiated during the service.
Macaluso's remains were flown out of Greece to Germany, then back to the United States.
Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park.
