DU QUOIN SOFTBALL: Lady Indians Finish Week Strong

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Putting together another solid effort, Du Quoin High School's girls softball team kept its River-to-River Conference record perfect in Mississippi Division play Thursday.

The Lady Indians (9-6) whitewashed visiting Chester 5-0 at Lefty Pyle Field, moving to 3-0 in the SIRR.

Idle over the weekend, Du Quoin's next action is Monday at Pinckneyville.

"Again we played very well," DHS coach Jason James said.

"Chelsea Hill pitched a great game and we played some good defense behind her. We played a solid game all-around and had several kids come up with big hits."

Hill (8-5) scattered five hits in tossing her fourth shutout of 2009. She fanned a season-high 12 and didn't issue a walk.

For good measure, the junior also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI.

Du Quoin scored on RBI hits from freshman Megi Jones and sophomore Kelsey Toler for an early two-run edge and never looked back. Toler, Kasi Camden and Jones enjoyed two-hit games. Toler knocked in three runs with Jessica Hirsch also singling.

"Hopefully we can keep this going into next week," James concluded. "We've got a very tough week ahead."
