The visiting Wildcats (9-4) are 3-0 in Mississippi Division play of The River-to-River Conference following a thrilling 6-5 victory over Pinckneyville.

Alan Engelhardt's young Panther squad dips to 4-6 and 0-2 entering Friday's game at Nashville.

"Despite coming away with a loss I was really pleased with some of things I saw today," Panthers coach Alan Engelhardt said. "We are playing harder now and I saw some good leadership from some of the older kids."

A-J touched PCHS starter Matthew Nichols (1-2) for the first inning runs, but managed just a pair of single markers in its next two at bats against reliver Garrick Hale.

PCHS had eight hits with Jeff Thornton smacking a two-run homer in the second.

Eight different Panthers accounted for hits-Matt Gill, Thomas McConnell, Hale, Landon Chandler, Drew Dudek (double), Taylor Beninati and Michael Rakers also hitting safely.

"We just have to keep plugging away," Engelhardt said. "If we continue to play hard and get better, we have the potential to be solid by the end of the year."
