BOYS TRACK & FIELD: Hoffman Blazes into DHS Record Books

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Trevor Hoffman shattered Du Quoin High School's exisiting 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdle record by more than one-half second Tuesday afternoon, highlighting a solid afternoon for the Tribe at West Frankfort's 14th Annual Redbird Invitational Track and Field meet.

Du Quoin had 61.1 points and finished second among the 11 teams, trailing only powerful Herrin (110.6). Pinckneyville, with 19 points, finished sixth.

Hoffman's blazing time of 39.15 completed a hurdle sweep for the Indian senior, who also won the 110 Meter High Hurdles (15.25) and ran the opening leg on Du Quoin's first place 4x400 Meter Relay.

"Our relays ran really well and our hurdlers ran well," Indians coach Al Martin said. "Trevor Hoffman had a great day. It's unusual to see a school record fall this early in the season. Karson Hoffman had a great day. It was a good day for the Hoffman family."

Trevor's performance in the intermediates broke the 1989 DHS school mark held by Bryce Elledge (39.65). He also logged a career-best time in the high hurdles and staked Du Quoin to a big early lead in the 4x400 while anchoring the second place 4x100 team (45.03).

Younger brother Karson won the 400 (52.96), ran anchor on the 4x400, placed fourth in the 100 and was second among Triple Jump entries.

David Rose and sophomore James Williams joined the Hoffman brothers in the 4x400 win as the Indians closed the meet with an impressive showing. Second place West Frankfort was nearly seven seconds behind.

"You always want to finish that race strong," Martin said. "We're just happy with how we ended up and feel the 4x400 could be one of our stronger events. We had several kids place in several events."

Du Quoin's other individual winner was Dalton Morgan, who cruised home to victory in the Big Man's 100 Meters (11.8).

Pinckneyville's top finish was the second place effort by A.J. Ross in the 3200.

Both the Indians and Panthers run Thursday at the Benton Relays.
