Du Quoin High School's Freshman-Sophomore Boys Track and Field

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's Freshman-Sophomore Boys Track and Field team closed its 2009 schedule on a great note Tuesday, rolling to an impressive victory in the five-school event.

Final point totals weren't available, but the Tribe finished well ahead of runner-up C-Z-R at Spann Field. Vienna-Goreville, Sesser-Valier/Waltonville and Carrier Mills completed the field.

Chaz Bland (Triple Jump, 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles) and Brock Morgenstern (Shot Put, Discus) were individual double-winners for Du Quoin.

The Pole Vault-where the Indians had the top two seeded entries-was not held.

Quinton Mathis (110 Meter High Hurdles) and Quivon Bledsoe (Long Jump) also finished first. Du Quoin also was first in the 4x200 Meter relay.

"The younger kids really finished up with two very good efforts this week," Indians coach Al Martin said. "We were second Monday (SIRR) and then able to again win this meet. For most of the frosh-sophs, this was their final meet of the year. Some will move up to the varsity. They've shown great improvement and continued to work very hard."

Thursday, weather allowing, the Indians compete in the River-to-River Conference championships at West Frankfort.

Martin said that SIRR officials have already designated Saturday as the reschedule date in case of a postponement. More severe weather- and power outages- rocked areas around West Frankfort early Thursday morning.
