WEEKEND UPDATE: Mother Nature Strikes Again !
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Overnight rains again put a damper on weekend prep sports activities slated for Saturday in and around The Call's coverage area.
Lost to the weather Saturday were Du Quoin's home baseball game- and senior day activities- vs. Centralia. The game has been rescheduled for 7 o'clock Monday night at Centralia. Friday afternoon, Du Quoin improved its record to 18-7 with its eighth straight win, edging host Gorevile 9-7. A three-run home run in the seventh by JC Davis put the Indians ahead. Davis was the winning pitcher with Cale Bastien finishing up. Trent Bigham also homered for the Tribe.
Du Quoin High School's Girls Softball team lost its trip to the Marissa-Coulterville Tournament Saturday because of rain. The Lady Indians 17-13, defeated Shawnee Friday afternoon 6-0 as Chelsea Hill pitched a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts. Monday afternoon at 4:30, the Lady Tribe plays Z-R-C at 4:30 as the Du Quoin Class 2A Regional begins.
Pinckneyville baseball was rained out at the Greenville College Tournament Saturday.
In girls track, one Perry County athlete will advance to next weekend's Class 1A State Finals.
Pinckneyville sophomore qualified in the 400 Meters (65.23) with a second place finish at the Nashville sectional. Du Quoin failed to qualify any individuals or relay teams.
Opening Day activites for Du Quoin Baseball, Inc. were postponed until next Saturday, May 23. PONY baseball and softball teams still held picture day, moving to the Du Quoin Youth Club.
