SIRR BOYS TRACK: Hoffman Shatters SIRR Hurdle Record
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's Boys Track and Field team returned to Perry County with a solid third place finish in Thursday's River-to-River Conference Championships.
The Indians scored 83 points within the Mississippi Division, trailing winner Sparta (198) and runner-up Nashville (142). Pinckneyville (19) finished sixth.
In the final tally, Du Quoin had All-SIRR efforts-first or second place medals-in six different events.
Senior Trevor Hoffman (39.76) ran to a new Mississippi Division record in winning the 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles, eclipsing the decade-long standard held by Nashville's Ben Reeder.
Hoffman (15.16) was also first in the 110 Meter High Hurdles and ran the opening leg on the Indians' first place 4x400 Meter Relay. He won the lows despite stumbling out of the starting blocks and nearly hitting the final hurdle.
"Trevor Hoffman just had a great day in setting a new conference record," Indians coach Al Martin said. "He swept both of the hurdle events against very competitive fields that included two returning all-staters (J.R. Woodward of Anna-Jonesboro and Nashville's David Conner). "We had several personal bests in other events, too."
Hoffman's sophomore brother Karson won the 400 Meters (51.7) and leaped a career-best 41'11 to take second in the Triple Jump.
Along with David Rose and James Williams, the two Hoffman's were part of the 4x400 Relay (3:30.72) which ran to an impressive victory.
In the 4x200, Du Quoin (1:36.7) was second to net All-SIRR honors. Rose, David Gayton, Blake Hester and Jamor Reed made up the group.
Du Quoin also had two third place finishes (4x100 Meter Relay and 4x200 Meter Frosh Relay) and were fourth in five other events.
"We are just very happy with the way all of our kids performed," Martin said. "Even with just a week or two of the season left, I still feel like we can improve even more. We've had steady improvement and its starting to show."
Du Quoin competes Monday in the Jared Morris Invitational at Nashville, its final tune-up prior to the Class 2A Sectional.
