Board of Education approves numerous positions; deny resignation of drama director
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The Board of Education of Chester Community Unit School District No. 139 met in the Chester School District Unit Office on May 21, 2009. Secretary Cushman called the Regular Meeting to order at 7 p.m.
Dwight Lochhead, Shirley Stegmann, and the Math & Science Classes made a presentation to the Board.
The Board approved the minutes for the Regular Meeting and Executive Session for April 16, 2009 and the Special Meeting and Executive Session of April 30, 2009.
Rich Clasen updated the Board on the Technology Department.
Scott Bert updated the Board on the Maintenance Department.
Mr. Coffey updated the Board on the Athletic Department.
Mr. Kittell, High School Principal, reported to the Board of Education:
PSAE Testing took place at the Grace Church.
Athletic Banquet was May 20th.
May 23rd was the 8th grade dance for all three schools held in Juergens gym.
Mr. Lochhead, Grade School Principal, reported to the Board of Education:
April 17th was Career Day at SWIC for the 8th grade students.
April 21-22 interviewed potential 1st and 4th grade teachers.
April 23rd was Tech Night for parents.
April 28th was Dare Graduation.
Spring Concert was April 30th.
Ms. Keim, District Superintendent, reported to the Board of Education:
Ms. Keim received the True Value Grant for 40 gallons of paint to help with the asbestos abatement.
Ms. Keim updated the Board on the district's lawsuits.
Ms. Keim approved the purchase of the Grade School Chiller.
Ms. Keim spoke to the Board about making a policy for anonymous letters.
Ms. Keim spoke to the Board about the district's fund balances.
The Board approved the district bills in the amount $507,182.46 and district payroll in the amount of $401,737.11 as presented.
The Board approved all consent agenda items:

The Board approved the first reading of the Grad School Handbook.
The Board approved to table the Fund Balances for the Operating Funds indefinitely.
The Board approved the second reading of the High School Student Handbook.
The Board approved the employment of Zebulon Holder, GS Vocal and General Music Teacher for the 2009-2010 school year.
The Board approved the employment of Stephanie Springer as a 4th Grade Teacher and Grade School Cheerleading Coach for the 2002-2010 school year.
The Board did not approve the resignation of Brenda Coop, HS Drama Director.
The Board did not enter into Executive Session.
The Board adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
