Du Quoin Summer Reading Program Starts June 10

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ "Wild about Reading and Books" is the theme of the 2009 summer literacy reading program co-sponsored by the Du Quoin Public Library and the Friends of the Du Quoin Public Library. The program will be supported by a Penny Severns' Grant awarded to the library, based on an application submitted by Mrs. Sarah Doerner, President of the Friends of the Du Quoin Public Library.

The Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, awards funding for the 2009 Penny Severns' Summer Family Literacy Program grant. The literacy-reading program will begin Wednesday, June 10, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Du Quoin City Hall located next door to the Du Quoin Public Library at 28 S. Washington St., Du Quoin.

Dates and times for the reading sessions are as follows: on Wednesdays from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on June 10, June 17, June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15 and July 22.

Additional time and information "to be announced later" will be given for any scheduled field trips to be taken. Transportation will be provided.

According to Mrs. Doerner, Du Quoin Public Library board member, youngsters, ages pre-kindergarten through sixth grades, and their family members are invited to participate in the program to help increase reading and library skills and to feel good about reading and the library.

There is no charge for the program. Additional special activities are planned for children and adult family members who attend as a family unit.

Those planning to participate need to pre-register at the Du Quoin Public Library by Sat, June 6, 2009 by filling out a registration form at the library counter. Pre-registration is required in order for the staff to prepare for the sessions' activities and materials. For more information, if needed, call the library at 542-5045 during its open hours.
