</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ At Thursday's Perry County Board of Commissioners meeting Chairman Bobby Kelly, Commissioner Jim Epplin and Commissioner Sam Robb heard presentations from the county's current insurance provider and options from another.

The board's intent was not to immediately seek bids for new insurance, but to view the options of insurance plans to see if there is a way to save any money without raising costs or removing coverage, as contracts with county employee's demands.

The current policy holder, Snedeker Risk Management, which has served Perry County for the past 12 years, presented plans to raise liability limits and include vision under the insurance benefits.

Other plans, presented by Jeremy Billington, showed a booklet of options and emphasized the need for detailed customization and good service.

Perry County is rated on a scale from AAA to D among all the counties in the state, and every state, based on numbers from previous claims, census and economic projection. Perry County is rated at a D and costs average twice that of AAA.

The board also:

Passed an ordinance amending the zoning code regarding penalties. It was previously stated that penalties were defined as a misdemeanor, which the zoning ordinance cannot do, and was changed to petty offense.

Granted zoning special use permits for Carla Wasson, Ruth Ellenburg, Dean Brand and Kathy Wayer.

Authorized Chairman Kelly to sign a contract agreement with Image Architects for the jail building roof project planned to rework the east side of the jail.

Authorized Chairman Kelly and County Clerk Kevin Kern to execute a voter registration state grant with the State Board of Elections. This action was taken due to the Help America Act passed in 2002 which mandated states to have voter registration databases but provided no funds to do so. The voter registration state grant reimburses funds that were allocated for the project (software, payroll) in the amount of $12,052.

Tabled the Chairman's appointment of a trustee to the Tamaroa Community Fire Protection District. Action is planned to be taken at the next meeting.

Ratified the Chairman's appointments of Sam Robb, Robert Spencer and Kathy West to the County Mental Health (708) Board.

Chairman Kelly also announced that Illinois Department of Natural Resources will be holding an open house meeting detailing local flood insurance and rates with locations. The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 23, at the Rend Lake College Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. for local government officials and from 6 to 8 p.m. for the public.
