Girls PONY Softball: Du Quoin, Goreville Palominos Split

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin's Palomino PONY Softball team split a pair of games against Goreville Friday night.

In the opener, Du Quoin posted a 7-4 victory as Micah Ward took the pitching victory. She threw seven innings, scattered eight hits and struck out four.

Ashley Hess was the top Du Quoin hitter, smacking two doubles and a single. Ward doubled, had two hits and knocked in two runs. Hess also added two RBI.

Courtney Morse, Angie Mabrey and Ashley Ward (double) all connected for hits.

Goreville needed eight innings to win a wild second game, 13-7, scoring six times in the extra frame.

M. Ward again handled the pitching chores, striking out five.

Ashley Hagston, M. Ward and A. Ward all had two hits.

A. Ward and Hagston doubled with Hagston knocking home two runs.

Cadey Hess contributed a two-run single.
