Business license discussed at Steeleville Board meeting
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Several different ordinances, as well as the road block-offs for Octoberfest and the St. Jude run/walk were discussed at the Steeleville Village board meeting that took place last Thursday, July 9.
Among the news, the fact of a business license and contractor's license was discussed. There is currently no fee for the business license that is in place. The board decided that they would go with a separate business license and contractor's license instead of having them together. They want to make sure that the contractors are legit. Mayor Armstrong said that the main reason for the licenses is for the contact information that they get from them, so that they can get ahold of them easier in emergencies and things like that. They will now be working on making the new business license and contractor's license. One thing that Mayor Armstrong wanted to make clear is that the current businesses will be grandfathered into the new license and will not be charged a fee.
In other news the ordinance 09-622 was discussed. This ordinance dealt with chapter 29-1-11 and how it referred people to Article 8, but there is no Article 8. It was proposed that that part be repealed, and that motion passed.
Ordinance 09-623 was also discussed; this dealt with amending Chapter 29-3-1 which was about occupancy permits. It was decided that the fee for an occupancy inspection from now to the end of the fiscal year would be set at $25. This is a cheaper fee than most surrounding communities. They said that an inspection would only take about thirty minutes and they would use a checklist so that nothing is missed and everything is inspected in the same manner.
In other news it was discussed about how as of right now it is set that if someone applies for a building permit they are supposed to get an answer back about it within 24 hours. The board thought that this was too short of a time because the people that are in charge of that are not always available to make a decision on it. They decided that they are going to look into changing the time period from 24 hours to at least three business days.
It was also brought up that the welcome signs at the edge of Steeleville should be redone and/or repainted. They said that they would try to contact the local school art department to see if they can repaint them.
Among other news the Illinois Municipal League Conference is coming up in September.
Police Chief Lyndon Thies said that they got a lot of good comments about Steeleville over the July 4 celebration.
In other news it was agreed that they would do about the same road closures as they did last year during the Octoberfest on the 9th and 10th of October. Renee Rheinecker also asked for the same road closures as last year for the St. Jude run/walk as well as a little extra help with the barricades for the race that starts at about 10:00 a.m. on October 10.
Among other news the senior site board stated that 1,135 meals were served last month, or about 52 meals a day.
The next Steeleville board meeting is scheduled for August 3rd.
