Free nurse assistant classes offered at SWIC

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Starting in August, Southwestern Illinois College is offering people a way to prepare for entry-level positions in health care - free Nurse Assistant Certification classes.

Held at the SWIC Red Bud Campus, 500 W. South Fourth St., the Nurse Assistant Certification class prepares students for certification as a CNA and to work in the fast-paced, growing health care field. Students also learn to perform procedures relating to the personal hygiene, safety, nutrition, exercise and general care of patients. Preregistration and orientation are required.

A Monday and Wednesday Nurse Assistant Certification class meets 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24 to Dec. 14.

A Tuesday and Wednesday Nurse Assistant Certification class meets 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25 to Dec. 15.

The Adult Basic Education Department offers these free programs to GED students, recent GED graduates, anyone without a high school diploma, anyone in a Department of Human Services program, anyone for whom English is a second language, and other eligible students.
