Accidents
On 7-05-09 Michaelann Nimmo, 23, of Willisville, IL, was involved in an accident at Rt. 150 & Grefe Lane. Nimmo was traveling west on Rt. 150 just east of Grefe Lane when the driver stated that the vehicles brakes and steering locked up causing it to the leave the road. The vehicle then struck a culvert, went airborne, and traveled through a ditch on Grefe Lane before coming to a rest. Nimmo was taken to Sparta Hospital by MedStar Amubulance.
On 7-05-09 Haylie Hargrove, 17, of Chester, IL, and Ronald C. Mollett, 50, of Modoc, IL, were involved in an accident at St. Rt. 3 & Baker Avenue, Ruma.
Ruma Officer Butch Simpson witnessed and reported the crash. He stated that both vehicles were traveling southbound at this location. Mollett appeared to nearly stop in the traffic lane adjacent to the 35 mile per hour sign (reduced from 55 miles per hour). He was then struck by Hargrove, pushing his motorcycle several feet before he went down and was ejected. The motorcycle came to rest on its left side in the southbound lane, and Hargrove stopped in the traffic lane and subsequently pulled to the side of the road.
Officer Simpson estimated that Mollett was traveling 35-40 miles per hour prior to the collision, and Mollett flew approximately 20' and skidded on the pavement in the northbound lane.
Hargrove stated that she had been following Mollett in a line of traffic since leaving Red Bud, southbound on State Route 3. She stated that she was approximately two car lengths behind Mollett and had slowed from 55 miles per hour to 40-45 miles per hour as she approached the 35 mile per hour speed limit sign. She also stated that Mollett had abruptly braked, possibly upon seeing a police car parked near the road, and that she applied her brakes, but was unable to avoid striking Mollett in the rear end.
A witness to the crash was traveling 5-6 car lengths behind Hargrove and observed her tires smoking from braking. The witness was unaware that Mollett was in front of Hargrove until he saw the driver fly through the air. The witness stated that it appeared that Mollett may have abruptly braked upon seeing the police vehicle.
Deputy Kenny Kempfer arrive prior and photographed the scene. Upon Officer Simpson's arrival, Hargrove's vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and Mollett's motorcycle was already loaded onto a tow truck. Officer Simpson marked the scene with paint in the event future measurements would be required.
In addition to the skid marks from Hargrove and Mollett's vehicles just prior to the point of impact, a single skid mark appeared to be consistent with Mollett's skid marks. This mark appeared to be from locking the rear tire and was approximately 3" long and was located approximately 15' prior to the skid marks from the collision.
Mollett was taken to the Red Bud Hospital by MedStar/Arch.
Hargrove was ticketed for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.

Accidents
On 7-09-09 Paul N. Jarvis, 59, of Zeigler, was involved in an accident on Rt. 154 near Marlow Rd. Jarvis struck a deer.
On 7-03-09 Amanda R. Keelin, 21, of Steeleville, IL, was involved in an accident on PD State Rt. 4, ¼ mile from Lake Dr. Keelin was south bound on St. Rt. 4 when a dog owned by Farron Owen's ran onto the roadway and was struck by Keelin on the passenger side. Keelin was arrested for No Valid Driver's License, expired less than 1 year.
On 7-06-09 Christy A. Hottes, 30, of DuQuoin, IL, was involved in an accident at E. Park St. Rd. and Lone Oak. Hottes was traveling on E. Park St. Rd. when she struck a deer in the roadway causing damage to her vehicle.
