Schmidt Art Center to host family art and music event

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Enjoy an afternoon of free art and music with your family! The Schmidt Art Center at Southwestern Illinois College, 2500 Carlyle Ave., Belleville, will host A Day of "Play" for families in the community. This fun-filled event will take place from 1-4:30 p.m., Saturday, July 18.

During this family event, you can listen to informal piano mini-concerts, create your own drawings and monoprints and enjoy some refreshments. Area music teachers will bring their students to play mini-concerts on the piano for the "Kids and Keys" portion of the event.

While you are at the Schmidt, be sure to check out the newest exhibits on display. View abstract prints by Jeff Sippel, portraits by Jenny Boudreault and an ecosystem/installation by Joe Chesla.

The Schmidt's regular summer hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.
