Season End's for Local Teams
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin's PONY Division (13-14 year-old) Baseball team dropped its second extra inning decision at the Zone Tournament in Benton Friday night, falling from the event with an 0-2 record.
A 6-5 loss to Murphysboro ended Du Quoin's season with a 21-15 mark.
Jonah Spencer and Thomas Hamlin each had two hits for Du Quoin with each smacking RBI triples.
Travis Chapman, Camden Mercier, Jacob O'Rourke and Haeden Sweetin also hit safely.
Brenden Fred worked the first seven innings on the pitchers mound, scattering seven hits with three strikeouts. Mercier tossed the eighth, which Murphysboro won with a two-out RBI single.
In 10-and-under softball, Du Quoin's girls placed third Sunday in the Zone tournament at Lefty Pyle Field.
The local squad was second in the silver division, winning four of six tourney games.
Another Du Quoin PONY team, the Palomino's girls softball club, lost twice last week in the Zone tournament at Fairfield.
Du Quoin fell to Fairfield (6-1) and Carmi (12-2) to be eliminated from the event.
