</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On August 3, the Steeleville city council held their monthly village board meeting at 7:00 p.m. Among the different things discussed and accepted were an ordinance for a contractor's license and several upcoming road closures for certain events.

The board members of Steeleville accepted ordinance 09-624 for a contractor's license at the meeting. It was once again said how many surrounding communities have one in place and they are working well. Requiring a contractor's license will make sure that contractors are insured and are also qualified for the job a citizen hires them for. Mayor Mike Armstrong said that the contractor's license will benefit the residents of Steeleville because of this. It will also be easy for people to spot whether a contractor is registered with the city. They plan to use a placard that would hang on the mirror of the contractor's vehicle to show if they are currently registered. It will be easy to update the date every year on the placard.

Steven Rodewald was present to tell the board that he had basement issues with water for the third time in sixteen months on July 11. He said that his family was forced to move out of the house for a while because of the smell of bleach that was used to clean it up. He knows that the city has been there to look at things and are working to make it better. Alan Dyke, Project Coordinator, said that they are trying to find the problem, and Mayor Armstrong said that they will keep Rodewald informed on how things are going.

Resolution 09-01, which was the authorizing execution of agreement with Constellation NewEnergy, was discussed and accepted at the meeting. This should save roughly $4,700.19 per month on electricity for municipalities.

It was reported that FEMA should cover 75% of the damages that were caused to the community from the May 8 storms. This will be about $4-$5,000. It was also stated at that time that southern Illinois was declared a disaster area.

The Fire House Brewing Company requested a street closure on part of Sparta St. on November 7 for a chili cook off that they and the Steeleville Fire Department will be hosting. The part of the street that will be closed is from Broadway St. up to the alley by Tracy's Café. It would be closed off from noon until 1:00 a.m. The request was accepted by the board of Steeleville. Each surrounding fire department that enters the cook off will pay for a team and there will be a welcoming to all of the chiefs of each fire department.

The residents of Windy Way St. requested that their street be closed on August 22 from 3:00 p.m. until around 10:00 p.m. for a block party. The board accepted the request.

A special use permit was given to Jo Ann Mevert and Sheila Alms for a business from home that sells personalized glass for weddings, baby showers and things like that.

In further news, Massachusetts St., which has been closed for about three weeks, is getting closer to being reopened but it will still take a couple of weeks for that to happen.

In other news, the senior site board reported that they served about forty-nine meals a day in the month of July. They also reported that the Steeleville Jaycees and the Eagle's Auxiliary donated money and bought a ten-burner gas stove for them.

The board is still waiting to hear more information about the Illinois Municipal League Conference that is to be held during the week of September 22.

The next Steeleville board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 3 at Steeleville City Hall.
