Elkville Fastpitch Third in ASA Nationals

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Elkville Fastpitch returned from Decatur Sunday afternoon with its best-ever showing in the ASA National Championships, ending a long weekend in third place.

The local team won three of five games in the 29-team Class C Nationals, finishing with a 10-0 loss Sunday morning against to Montgomery, Al. Travelers.

The other tourney loss came to eventual national champ Blue Lake Builders of Adamstown, Pa. 12-0. Elkville's wins were over Reading, Pa. (Hoffman Garage/Elite Coach) 2-1, Jefferson City, Mi. SLAM 6-5 in 11 innings and Teutopolis Wessel's Coors Light 8-2.

Three Elkville players were named to the ASA All-American team. Pitcher Les Wood made first team with shortstop Tim Herring a third team choice. Utility player Lance Bedar earned honorable mention honors.

In the ASA Class A Nationals, which ran concurrently at the same Rotary Park Complex, Pinckneyville (Lee's Sports Falcons/KC) tied for for fifth place with a 1-2 record. The Falcons defeated Mascoutah, IL. Pete's Blues 7-3 before losing to Marshall, Mi. 2-0 and Kokomo, In. 12-5.
