DMS Diamond Teams Rolls at Chester

Du Quoin Middle School closed within four games of another perfect Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) season Thursday, dispatching host Chester (Middle School) 17-3 at the Cohen Sports Complex.

With an 8-0 record in loop play, Du Quoin is 14-2 overall and is home to play second place Jr. SWEC rival Murphysboro at 4 p.m. Thursday.

"We had some good pitching today from Camden Youngman," DMS coach Tim Craft said. "We did not make adjustments at the plate in the early going like we should have."

10 different Warriors had at least one hit at the plate with Dalton Bigham going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Spencer Cook doubled home two runs and Logan Patalas notched a pair of RBI. Dakot DuPuis also had two RBI with a double.

Other hits came from Ryne O'Rourke, Braden Watson, Youngman, Lane Valier, Noah Campbell and Kody Hess.

Youngman worked six innings on the mound, giving three hits and striking out nine. AJ Smith finished up.

Sending 24 batters to the plate-and scoring 20 times-Du Quoin Middle School improved its softball record to 14-3 with a 26-2 rout of host Chester (Middle School) Wednesday.

The Lady Warriors are 7-1 in Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) play and host Murphysboro Thursday at 4 o'clock.

The game was called after three innings as DMS pitchers Emily Asbury (9-1) and Hannah Marek combined for a three-hitter.

"We played well and hit the ball a lot better today," Du Quoin coach Jason James said. "We have a big game coming up against Murphysboro."

Hailey Stewart led the DMS offense with three hits and four RBI. Asbury added three hits with Kate Toler knocking in three runs.

Katrina Whitley and Asbury each had two RBI.

Asbury pitched first two innings, whiffing two. Marek, a sixth grader, debuted in the circle by allowing both Chester runs in the third.
