The Fighting Falcons (0-2) host Black Diamond Conference rival Johnston City (1-1) in the home opener at Isom Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Southern Illinois' first lighted football field.
J'City is fresh off its 450th win in program history, a 25-14 victory over Christopher/Zeigler-Royalton while Elverado is riding an 18-game losing streak.
That streak-oddly enough-dates back to a win in week three of 2007 against Johnston City. That game was also played at Isom Field.
Against C-Z-R, the Indians grinded out 233 yards of rushing with five different backs-and quarterback Dustin Solomon-gaining at least 30 yards each.
Johnston City threw just one pass in the contest, but it went for a 75-yard touvhdown from Solomon to Ashton McIntosh.
E-T lost 32-8 at Eldorado, scoring only on Randy Goetz' 4-yard run.
Quarterback Alex McGill added the two-point conversion as the Fighting Falcons ran for a season-high 129 yards.
Fullback Kyle Easton's 50 yards on 14 tries topped E-T. Goetz added 34 yards and McGill 33.
McGill completed seven passes, all but three to running back Herby Sandlin.
Johnston City features big offensive and defensive lines, led by returning starters David Spiller (5'9, 185, sr.) and Jason Clendenin (6'0, 320, sr.).
