St. John Lady Hornets softball team improves record
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[St. John Lady Hornets softball team improves record to 4-2 with a win over previously undefeated St. Mark's of Steeleville. St. John started the year with a 6-5 loss at Coulterville. Coulterville took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. St. John scored two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to one, but Coulterville scored three more times in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 6-2. St. John then scored two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh but came up one run short losing 6-5.
St. John then faced Jacob at home winning 12-2.
St. John then traveled to Red Bud to face St. John the Baptist Catholic Hornets. Red Bud scored three times in the bottom of the first and once in the second to take a 4-0 lead. St. John Chester scored two in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-2. St. John Chester then scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning to an 8-4 lead. Red Bud answered with three in the fourth to cut the lead to 8-7. St. John Chester then scored two runs in the top of the fifth, one run in the top of the sixth, and two more in the top of the seventh to take a 13-7 lead. The St. John Chester defense then fall apart and the youth of the team showed up. Red Bud scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 14-13.
A very young Prairie du Rocher team then came to Chester to face St. John. St. John won the game 22-3. Lacy Reynolds picked up the win.
Another young team, Prairie Trinity, came to Chester and St. John won 16-1. Fifth grade pitcher, Sydney Levan, picked up her first win of the season.
St. Mark's of Steeleville came to Chester to face St. John's. St. Mark's was held scoreless in the top of the first inning. St. John scored 4 times in the bottom of the first when Sydney Levan bunted for a single and Lacey Reynolds then tripled home Levan. Reynolds scored on a triple by Amber Watkins and Jessica Powell then tripled home Watkins. Powell scored on a safety squeeze by Mallory Westerman. St. John then scored 4 more times in the 3rd inning when Sydney Levan beat out her second bunt single. Lacey Reynolds then walked and Amber Watkins doubled in both Levan and Reynolds. Jessica Powell then singled home Watkins, and Powell took second on a fast ball. Powell was then sacrified to third on a bunt by Mallory Westerman. Powell then scored when the catcher threw to first base on a dropped 3rd strike. St. John then scored 4 more times in the 4th inning. Alyssa Hoops walked to lead off the inning. Sydney Levan and Lacey Reynolds also walked to load up the bases. Amber Watkins then tripled home Hoops, Levan, and Reynolds. Watkins then scored on a fielder's choice. Lacey Reynolds picked up the win striking out 6 and walking only 1.
Sydney Levan was 2 for 2 with 1 walk. Lacey Reynolds was 1 for 1 with 2 walks. Amber Watkins was 3 for 3 with 2 triples and 1 double. Jessica Powell was 2 for 3 with a triple and a 1 single.
