Du Quoin and Pinckneyville Bands See Success in the Big Apple
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville High School, Pinckneyville Jr. High and Du Quoin Middle School bands all saw great success in Saturday's Apple Festival parade in Murphysboro.
Pinckneyville was represented by over 240 band students in the Murphysboro Apple Festival Parade and the two bands earned top awards.
The Pinckneyville Junior High Marching Junior Panthers won 1st Place in the Junior High division and also won the Outstanding Percussion award.
The Pinckneyville Community High School Marching Panthers won 2nd Place in the Class AA Division and the Panther Drumline won the Outstanding Percussion Award over Waterloo High School. In the evening Drums At Appletime field show contest the Marching Panthers placed 2nd to Potosi High School out of Missouri and the Marching Panther Colorguard won the Outstanding Color Guard award.
The bands are under the direction of Stephen Cannedy and Cathy Cunningham with assistants Rhonda Hicks, Kyle Pursell and Karen O'Brien.
A big thank you to all of the parents and supporters that helped with the uniform fittings. Special thanks to Glenna Pfau for organizing the High School uniform fittings. Also to parents that helped chaperone and the Andy Greer family for all of their help with transportation.
The Pinckneyville bands will be performing together this Friday night in the annual combined pre-game show before the home Panther game. Their pre-game show will begin at 6:40 p.m.
The Marching Panthers will be in competition in the Sparta Homefest Field Show Contest on Saturday, Sept. 26. This contest is based on band size and the performance schedule is:
Johnston City - Class A - 4:20
DeSoto High School - Class A - 4:40
Ste Genevieve High School - Class AA - 5:00
Centralia High School - Class AA - 5:20
Bayless High School - Class AA - 6:00
Pinckneyville Community High School - Class AAA - 6:20
Sparta High School - Exhibition - 6:40
Awards - 7:05
The Du Quoin Middle School Marching Warriors won 2nd place in the junior high competition and won honors as the Best Color Guard in the Apple Festival parade.
Du Quoin Middle School band director Jon Montgomery thanked students and parents for a great day of music in Murphysboro.
