Tribe Sophomores Explode in Second Quarter, Romp Chester

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The Du Quoin High School Junior Varsity Football team scored 20 points in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the second quarter Monday night, turning a close game against Chester into a lopsided rout.

Ahead 7-0 in the waning moments of the half, the young Tribe scored three straight touchdowns and rolled on to a 41-0 victory at Van Metre Field.

Now 2-3, the Indians are 2-0 in River-to-River Conference, Mississippi Division play. Next Monday, Du Quoin visits Pinckneyville.

A 1-yard run by Cayle Diggins staked the Indians to a first quarter lead with Diggins adding the PAT kick for a 7-0 margin.

With 3:25 left before halftime, Sam Gossett connected with Jonathon Boss on a 60-yard TD pass. Diggings then added the extra point.

At the 57.1 mark of the half, Gossett and Boss connected from 45 yards. Another boot from Diggins made the score 21-0.

Buried deep in its own territory with just 22 seconds left, the Yellowjackets fumbled and Du Quoin's Blayne Harris recovered the ball in the end zone for the fourth TD.

This time, Diggins' kick was ruled wide left.

In the final half, a pair of 5-yard runs from Gossett and Howard Kelly -along with two more Diggins kicks-completed the scoring.
