SIJHSAA Regional Finals: St. Bruno/Tamaroa Makes History
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[St. Bruno/Tamaroa softball is state tournament bound following Tuesday's convincing victory at Nashville.
The Lady Falcons, 18-3, rolled past Aviston (Grade School) 8-1 in the championship game of the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association (SIJHSAA) Class S Region V Regional Tournament.
SB/T advances to play defending state champion Galatia (Junior High School) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. The tournament is played at the Coulterville City Park.
This marks the first time ever that a grade school softball team from St. Bruno or Tamaroa has reached the state level.
Kayla Harris struck out 10 Aviston batters in the title game victory, she walked three but didn't allow a hit.
SB/T coed in five of its six at bats with Haley Szczepanski smacking a two-run double.
Jordan Koenegstein, Breanna Zoeckler, Bailey Nippe, Kaylee Rulevish, Jordyn Bullar, Afton Robinson and Dalis Hubler all contributing hits.
Other RBI came from Koenegstein, Nippe, Rulevish, Buller, Szczepanski and Robinson.
Harris carried her shutout into the seventh inning and ended up facing just 22 Aviston hitters.
In last week's semifinals, SB/T blasted Nashville (St. Ann/Trinity St. Joseph) 13-0 in five innings. Koenegstein pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
Robinson (three RBI), Bullar (two RBI) and Hubler (triple) had big day at the plate.
PJHS, Jr. SWEC UPDATE
Also Tuesday, Pinckneyville (Junior High School) lost its regional final in Class M to Trico (Junior High School).
The final score was 4-2. The PJHS loss gave Du Quoin (Middle School) its first outright Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) championship in school history.
The PJHS/Trico game was also counted as a conference game following a rain out last week.
