Weather Suspends Frosh Football Game

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Mother Nature-not Du Quoin or Pinckneyville-walked away as the victor from Thursday night's freshman football game at Quillman Field.

The Indians held a 22-6 lead over the young Panthers with 5:05 remaining in the third quarter when lightning forced the contest to be delayed and then eventually postponed.

At 5:30 Monday, play will resume. The Indians and Panthers then hit the field for the regularly scheduled junior varsity game at 6:30.

Du Quoin (4-1) scored first Thursday night on a 5-yard run from Nate Boss midway through the opening quarter. Brenden Fred then tossed a two-point conversion pass to Deeja Cole for an 8-0 score.

Pinckneyville (2-3) would bounce right back, scoring on Dylan Hardin's 8-yard quarterback keeper. The PAT run failed.

With 9:16 left in the second quarter, Shayne Baxter ran for the second Du Quoin TD, a five-yarder. The conversion failed and the score was 14-6.

The margin would grow as the clocked ticked under 50 seconds for the half.

Fred tossed a 21-yard scoring pass to Boss. Fred then ran for the two-point PAT.

Just after halftime, storms began to approach western Perry County.

When the game re-starts, the Indians will have the ball deep in their own territory.
