An impressive buffet of hors d'oeuvres were served by officers Cynthia Lawder, Wilma Whittenberg, Louise Liefer, Cathy Sauer, Sharon McMath, Tonya Robbins, Marian Lutz, and Joan Montroy.

President Cynthia Lawder opened the business meeting by welcoming guests Beverly O'Toole and Ruth Rowley. The women recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Club Ritual. Members were encouraged to pick up their new yearbooks and Mrs. Lawder pointed out the listing of interesting programs scheduled for the coming year.

Cathy Sauer encouraged members to contact her if they are interested in continuing the club's Antiques Department. It was announced the club's literature department has now merged with the Chester Public Library's monthly book club on the second Tuesday of every other month.

Joan Montroy reported, on behalf of herself and Mary Ann Stumpe, that the club's summer story hour at the library was extremely successful, with record attendance throughout the summer.

A variety of community activity announcements were made, including the fact that club members have been invited to help in providing homemade cookies for the Violence Prevention Center's annual cookie walk on December 4, 5, & 6. Drop off will be at the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 3.

The afternoon program was presented by Charlie Bargman, Asst. Coordinator of Chester's Emergency Management Agency. He spoke on the capabilities of Chester's emergency services and encouraged individuals to prepare their homes so that their families can be self-sustainable for up to 72 hours following any type of disaster. He stated that, depending on the types or magnitudes of a local disaster, there would be multiple agencies responding. He explained to the women that locally the tornado siren is a long steady tone, whereas the fire signal is an "up and down" siren. Bargman distributed very informational flyers to the women and provided a great deal of valuable information.

The meeting closed with drawings for potted mums which adorned the tables. Winners were: Mary Limbaugh, Roberta Mueller, Emily Lyons, Mary Ann Koeneman, Lorna Eggemeyer, Dot Witbart, Tammy Grah and Norma Baughman.

The next meeting of the Chester Women's Club will be Friday, October 23, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The program will be "Memories of Our Mothers" and members are encouraged to bring a memento of their mothers to share with the membership.

Hostesses will be: Gwendy Garner and Eileen Gordon, co-chairmen; Ruby Allison, Linda Saunders, Betty Wagner, Dorothy Korando, Darlene Gentsch, Roberta Mueller, Betty Krieg, and Pat Pautler.
