Sporting Clays fundraiser results

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Five shooters representing the Turkey Bluffs chapter won the recent Clays for Conservation competition held at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex.

The Sporting Clays event was sponsored by the Southwestern Illinois Quail Unlimited chapter as a fundraiser September 26, 2009. The event had a twist in that the winning team designated a conservation charity of their choice to receive the $500 prize.

Winning the 2009 prize and the traveling trophy was the Turkey Bluffs team of Chester, part of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Shooting for the team were Bob Pratt of Red Bud, Mark Miles of Coulterville, J. L. Hargis of Ellis Grove, Darryl Westerman of Chester and Mark Wilson of Prairie du Rocher.

The event also included a bucket raffle, silent auction, and attendance prizes. It was held with the cooperation of Dennis Sneed, director of Sporting Clays at the WSRC.

Southwestern Illinois QU, with the cooperation of the Illinois Quail Unlimited and the National Quail Unlimited, supports local habitat development, wildlife food plots, and research aimed at increasing the natural development of quail and other wildlife populations.

The chapter meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Sparta.
