Yellow Jackets travel to Pyramid Oaks for final regular season match against Trico

Unfortunately, today was not the day for the Jackets to pull off a win, falling to Trico 182-222.

Senior Brett Barthol led the Yellow Jackets with a 9-hole score of 48 for the day, attributing his score to a handful of bad shots. Fellow Senior Sam Higgerson, however, played well today, scoring under 40 for the second time in a competitive match with a 49. On the par 3, #6 Higgerson hit his tee shot onto the #7 tee box, but then followed up with a shot to the fringe, punching his shot between a cluster of trees. Sam two-putted for bogey and saved a number of strokes on a possibly disasterous hole.

Freshman Jonavan Richelman carded a 53 for the day, after a questionable lie off the fairway on hole #8 that was deemed to be out of bounds. Richelman double-parred the hole and did not recover from the blow on his remaining holes. Golf can be the most frustrating sport at times and high school players are bound to have bad days full of frustration. Fellow Freshman Robert Gonzalez, who has been working in and out of development with his swing, brought in a 72 for the day, but was lucky enough to end his round with a successful 6 foot, sloping putt.

The Jacket Golf squad will be competing in the IHSA Class A Regional which will be hosted by Murphysboro High School at Jackson County Country Club on Tuesday, October 6th. Schools attending the Regional at Jackson County include Anna-Jonesboro, Carterville, Chester, Cobden, Eldorado, Goreville, Harrisburg, Herrin, Johnson City, Massac County, Murphysboro, Steeleville, Trico, and Vienna. Tee times will begin at 9 a.m.
